The 78,000 square foot addition will double the available gallery space for both permanent and temporary exhibits and add a space for educational programs. In addition, a new campus, pedestrian mall, and arts plaza will form the centerpiece of the campus' new arts district.
The design of the museum is conceived as creating the fraternal twin of the existing museum. Utilizing the same palette of design ideas as the existing museum, i.e. its materials, its use of daylight, its integration into the campus, and uses these ideas in new and different ways to achieve a contemporary yet timeless counterpart to the existing building.
