Continuum’s engagement from the onset has been to develop creative, cost-effective design to eliminate the stigma of placing supportive housing in neighborhoods and highly visible urban areas. As a strong sustainable measure and to gain creative LEED points, the existing foundation wall, which constitutes the lower level perimeter walls, and the pre-cast concrete slab structure of the first floor is reutilized and integrated into the new superstructure above. This project is undergoing review to become Silver LEED certified.
As a way to boost the area workforce, the project partners included an apprenticeship program for the project to train residents of Guest House. Providing on-the-job skills training ensures workers well being and allows a smoother transition into the workforce and out of homelessness cycle.
