Renovation of UWM's Fireside Lounge upgraded the existing finishes, improved existing storage space, and restored the lounge to its historical role as the centerpiece meeting space for the Student Union. The design allows direct traffic flow between the Ballroom, Fireside Lounge and elevators, making the area more accessible and usable for group activities.
Also included in the project is the reconfiguration of the kitchen area and additional loading dock access on the ground floor. The kitchen was at one time the main production kitchen for the campus. When this function was moved to Sandburg Hall, the large kitchen area became inefficient and underutilized. The project goal was to reduce the size of the kitchen and renovate the space to meet current Student Union needs. The regained space was connected to office space for UWM's Union Art Production department.
