national avenue lofts / Milwaukee, WI

National Avenue Lofts transformed a former industrial site into affordable housing in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. The three-story wood structure was built over 200 piles extending 100’ below grade to mitigate the marshy site, formerly part of Lake Michigan. Units include  townhomes, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.

The two wings of the building connect at the three-story glass tower that houses the entry lobby and all of the public/common spaces. When lit up at night, the entrance is a striking landmark that honors the once industrial site. This contemporary housing incorporates Wisconsin Green Built home program elements such as an accessible green roof on the garage and exclusive installation of LED fixtures throughout.
