The Barclay / Milwaukee, WI

The historic Pittsburgh Plate Glass company in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood played a significant role in the City’s golden age of manufacturing. Continuum nominated the nine-building campus for the State and National Register of Historic Places, both of which were approved. The firm then worked with a developer to reimagine the complex as a multi-family housing development that adheres to strict historic preservation guidelines.

One building, deemed unsuitable for residential uses, will serve as a gateway icon into the site, and symbolize its former industrial use. The two three-story buildings will be connected through an addition that serves as the main entrance and lobby. The five-story building across the street also features a new entrance lobby addition. Collectively, the development will provide 116 units that include a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.
