Affordable Wauwatosa apartments for advancing Medical College students

Wauwatosa apartments with lower rents meant to appeal to students of the nearby Medical College of Wisconsin could break ground this spring.

The Watertown Apartments on West Watertown Plank Road are conceived by Medical College graduates Dr. Satish Kodali and Dr. Manish Gharia. The 147 apartments are designed to fill what the two doctors see as a lack of lower-cost apartments in Wauwatosa, said development partner Patrick Shanahan. Monthly rents would be in the $900 to $1,600 range, he said, making Watertown a more affordable option for students and employees in the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center located across the street.

Wauwatosa’s Community Affairs Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the project with conditions, sending it to the Common Council for a final vote next week.
