Flowing through the heart of St. Louis as it moves towards the sea the Mississippi is a body of water of immense cultural, ecological, historical value to the USA and the City of St. Louis. As the river meanders through the country it creates in its path stories, connections, opportunities, histories, and legends. Close to the St. Louis Job Corps Center (STLJCC) the river forms a confluence with the Missouri River- a site which symbolizes the spirit of exploration, expansion and discovery. This unwavering spirit of the Mississippi is the essence of the design at STLJCC. As the central plaza meanders from one end of the campus to the other, it becomes a navigable space that connects, forms confluences, expands, contracts, creates nooks and overlooks. These spatial episodes allow for multiple ways in which users can physically and visually engage with the campus and create a vital space of learning and exchange.
